Lang began manufacturing precision thickness feeler gauges in his basement workshop in Racine, Wisconsin — the first customer was Snap-on Tools, then as now one of the most demanding buyers of precision hand tools in the United States. That early relationship with Snap-on set the quality standard that has defined A&E Incorporated for four generations of the Lang family. Today the company operates as a holding company for A&E Tools, Eckmann Custom Products, and Cabat, Inc., employing hundreds of workers in the Racine community and maintaining its commitment to American manufacturing.
